HAMMERHOUND
Name: Hammerhound
Aliases: Sharkdog, Shark-DAWWWWWG
Sphere: The Black Sea
Tier: Regular
Picture:
Abilities: A fearsome combination of the canines and sharks of Earth, the Hammerhound is the perfect conventional amphibious predator. With a nose specifically designed for scenting blood both above and below sea level, whenever anything within a 500m radius sheds that delectable crimson, above or below ground, nearby Hammerhounds will know about it. Their streamlined fins allow them to swim with relative aplomb; and their dual-purpose gills allow them to breathe underwater as well as above ground.
Their claws are able to shred the flesh and sinew of human targets with ease, and the weaker submerged Demons; their hunting prowess and the ability to track a helpless target from its blood trail is unparalleled beneath the deep black ocean waves; their jaws can snap bones with a single crunch. Their physical strength is formidable and of note - yet they themselves are not armoured, and whilst agile, can be hacked through with relative ease.
Deterring them is easy - and combat, even underwater - though the advantage for humans and most land-dwelling Demons will lay above ground - against a singular Hammerhound is simple enough in principle. However these beasts hunt in packs; swim in packs; and devour in packs. So run. Hide. Try to wash away that trail of leaking blood. But they'll find you. And even if you manage to scrabble onto the damned coast of the Black Sea... the Hammerhounds are just as much hunters above ground as below.
Miscellaneous Notes: - Much like a shark, must keep moving. Indefinitely underwater, and above water, at least some sign of movement every five minutes or so. This is why you will see numerous Hammerhounds on the fringes of the Black Sea lie down for a few minutes, run frantically in circles, and than lie back down.
- Loud noises can disperse large groups of them - hence why Carapites and Hammerhounds are oft found fighting.
- Naturally occur in "shoals" of anywhere from two to ten.
- Speed and strength halved above ground.
- Skeletons are particularly reinforced yet somehow light - this allows them to resist the pressure of the Black Sea's deeper, darker echelons.
